Originle preview artwork

Originle presents a single mystery guest each UTC day and asks you to name their country in up to three guesses. Each round begins with a brief piece of original fiction that evokes climate, work, food, or landscape but never prints the country; beneath the paragraph are hint chips that add softer atmospheric clues. The daily puzzle is shared worldwide on the same UTC date and requires no login.

The game uses a simple color feedback system: green for correct, yellow for same continent, and a miss (gray/white) for a different continent. There are three play modes: the shared Daily puzzle that builds a local streak stored in your browser, Unlimited practice rounds with the same three-guess limit that do not affect the streak, and an Archive of past UTC dates you can open and play under the same rules. The site is mobile friendly and the page shows the UTC date so you know which puzzle is active.

How to play Originle

  1. On Originle, read the mystery guest card once through before you start searching for a country.
  2. Type a country name into the guess field and choose a match from the suggestion list to submit a guess.
  3. You have three attempts; green means correct and the round ends, yellow means the right continent but wrong country, and a miss means a different continent.
  4. If you finish the daily round, you can play Unlimited for practice or open the Archive to play past dates without changing the daily streak.

Tips for Originle

  • Read the whole paragraph first and then glance at the hint chips; the paragraph is the primary evidence and the chips are softer atmosphere.
  • Before naming a country, name the region or continent in your head and then pick the country you can defend in one sentence.
  • If a guess turns yellow, keep your next guess on that same continent and eliminate countries whose ordinary climate or landscape cannot fit the story.
  • If a guess is a miss, do not guess another country from that continent because the miss removes the entire continent from consideration.

Originle FAQ

What is Originle?

Originle is a story-first daily geography puzzle where you read a short fiction card about a mystery guest and try to name their country in three guesses. The card gives landscape, work, food, or climate clues and the hint chips add softer atmosphere; nothing on the card ever prints the country name.

Is Originle free to play?

Yes, Originle is free to play and requires no account or login. The site offers a shared Daily puzzle that everyone sees for the same UTC date, plus unlimited practice rounds and an Archive of past dates, all accessible without signing in.

How many guesses do you get on Originle?

You get three guesses to identify the country on each round. A correct guess turns the row green and ends the round; yellow means same continent and a miss means a different continent and uses up one of your three attempts.

When does the new Originle puzzle come out?

A new Originle daily puzzle is tied to the UTC date so everyone worldwide sees the same puzzle for that UTC day. The page displays the active UTC date so you can check which daily card is current regardless of your local time.

Can I play past Originle puzzles?

Yes, you can play past puzzles via the Archive, which lists recent UTC dates with a non-spoiling soft clue for each date so you can open and play that day’s card under the same three-guess rules. Saved progress for archived dates is stored in your browser.

Does Originle work on mobile devices?

Yes, Originle works on phones and is intended to be playable on mobile before or after your local midnight. The site shows the UTC date so mobile players can verify which daily puzzle is active even when local and UTC dates differ.

What do the colors mean in Originle?

Green means your guess is the correct country, yellow means your guess is on the same continent as the answer, and a miss (gray or white) means the guess is on a different continent. The game does not indicate distance or direction within a continent.

Can you share your Originle results?

Yes, Originle provides a shareable grid that reproduces the colored results without showing country names so friends can see your score shape without spoiling the answer. The share line can show how many guesses you used and flags Unlimited plays as practice so others know it was not the UTC puzzle.
