GeoSlice preview artwork

GeoSlice is a geography puzzle that asks you to divide populations on a map into equal parts using real population data. Pick Halves, Thirds, or Quarters and drag or place lines on an interactive world map to try to match the target share as closely as possible. Each puzzle uses actual population distributions rather than abstract shapes.

A new set of puzzles appears every day and the site offers extra features behind premium options. Unlimited Premium unlocks unlimited replays of the Halves, Thirds, and Quarters modes and grants access to the full daily archive going back to June 1st. Additional premium modes let you slice continents, individual countries, states, provinces, and regions.

How to play GeoSlice

  1. How to play GeoSlice: choose a mode, Halves, Thirds, or Quarters, to start the puzzle.
  2. For Halves, drag one line across the map to split the population as close to 50/50 as you can.
  3. For Thirds, place a centre point and adjust three spokes to divide the map into three regions.
  4. For Quarters, position two locked-perpendicular lines through a centre point to divide the map into four regions.
  5. Submit your slice to see how close your divisions are to the target population shares and view your score and stats.

Tips for GeoSlice

  • Start by placing lines roughly where large population centers are separated, then fine-tune to balance totals.
  • In Thirds mode, rotate the centre point and spokes together to shift population between adjacent sectors efficiently.
  • For Quarters, move the centre to avoid dense population clusters falling entirely into one quadrant.
  • Use Unlimited Premium if you want to replay the same daily map multiple times and practice different approaches.
